CEO Ian Gover on Why We Started Rypple — And Why Joining Betterworks Accelerates the Mission
Ian Gover, Co-Founder & CEO, Rypple

Today, I'm thrilled to share that Rypple has been acquired by Betterworks.
When we started Rypple, we began with a simple belief: the 200 million managers in the world — the people responsible for nearly every team and every outcome at work — deserved better. Not another library of courses. Not another administrative system to optimize yet another HR process. And certainly not another AI bot spitting-out fortune cookie wisdom. But a real management partner that knows them, understands their team and comprehends their work. A leadership coach that helps every manager show up with confidence and clarity every single day. And that's what we have been quietly building at Rypple.
The result is something fundamentally different from traditional leadership development. Rather than separating learning from execution, Rypple integrates guidance and actions directly into the daily realities of life as a manager. It helps managers make better decisions in the moment, execute with greater confidence, and spend more time on the essential parts of leadership that require human judgment, empathy, and creativity.
Joining Betterworks doesn't compromise or distract from that core mission — in fact, the alignment of the two companies accelerates and amplifies it.
Why Betterworks?
For those who follow the performance management space, Betterworks needs little introduction. They've spent years building the enterprise standard for continuous performance management — organizational goal alignment, calibration, real-time engagement, and feedback that actually sticks. Their customers include some of the world's most sophisticated organizations, and for good reason: Betterworks treats individual, team and organizational performance as a living system, not an annual event.
We built Rypple to be the AI leadership coach that lives with the manager — remembering their team, following through on their commitments, identifying what's at risk, and pinpointing what needs to happen next. Each of those key management moments creates a signal about what is actually happening inside an organization. Taken together, they provide a powerful view into real-time organizational performance.
Simply put, Rypple supports managers in the moments that matter. Betterworks connects all of those moments to company strategy and organizational outcomes. Together, we close the loop.
Why Now?
The timing isn't coincidental. We're at a critical inflection point in the world of work.
AI hasn't just changed the tools managers use — it's fundamentally changed the expectations placed on them. Managers are now expected to coach, align, retain, and develop increasingly larger teams while navigating a pace of change that would have been unimaginable five years ago. Yet most of them have never had a coach of their own, never had access to a training program worth taking, and never had software that actually understands their day-to-day reality.
The technology has finally evolved and the market is finally ready for something different. Enterprises aren't asking whether to invest in manager effectiveness anymore. They're asking how. And the answer can no longer be "another module buried in your HCM suite." It has to be something that shows up in the flow of work, in the meeting room, in the hard conversation, in the moment of uncertainty at 9am on a Tuesday.
That's Rypple. And now, with Betterworks' enterprise reach, customer relationships, and performance infrastructure, we can bring that experience to managers at a scale we never could have reached alone.
Organizations perform better when managers perform better. And if we want to improve performance, engagement, retention, growth, and outcomes, we have to start by helping managers do the work of managing better. That's the mission that inspired Rypple. And it's the mission we're even more excited to pursue as part of Betterworks. Together, we can combine enterprise-grade performance intelligence with AI-native manager enablement, connect top-down organizational objectives with bottom-up leadership behaviors, and transform performance from something measured into something improved continuously.
Most importantly, it gives us the opportunity to help more managers. Because that mission remains core to everything we do.
